Our History

Founded in 1970 by Hively Avenue Mennonite Church, Hively Nursery School (now Hively Avenue Preschool) was formed as a service project to aid in the physical, social and emotional development of community children.  A non-sectarian organization, Hively Nursery School endeavored to ease the transition from family life to school life.

On that first day of nursery school in 1970, there were five students enrolled.  Over the past fifty years, more than 2000 students have passed through our doors.

Enrollment has ranged from 5 to over 80 in a single year.  The program has expanded from one small class to eight in some years.

During the 2014-15 school year, an extended day preschool class was added to better prepare our students for success in Kindergarten.
